Chapter 14
Austin
For almost two weeks, Iâve spent my days with Ally. Weâve watched television, talked, laughed, and hung out. Iâve done my best to keep her in this bed, and itâs been absolute torture for me. Night after night, Iâve held her in my arms, tight against my body. I go to sleep with a hard-on and wake up with one too.
So many times Iâve wanted to taste her again, but I havenât. Sheâs obviously troubled with everything, and I donât want to add even more pressure to her. Thank fuck, she hasnât cried again since the day she moved in here.
âYou have to go into work today, donât you?â
I didnât realize she was awake. Iâve lain here with my arms around her, cherishing this time when sheâs asleep and her body melts into mine. Thereâs no hesitancy, insecurity, or anything else when sheâs like this. Itâs just the two of us. I clear my throat. âYeah, just for a little while. But donât worry, Elle is going to come over and hang out with you for a while.â
I know sheâs rolling her eyes at me, and Iâm not even looking at her. âI donât need a babysitter.â
I rub my hand down her back. âDo this for me, Ally. I just need to go in for a little while, and I donât want to worry about you while Iâm there.â
Sheâs going to argue. Iâm sure of it, so Iâm surprised when she says, âOkay.â
I pull back so I can look at her face. âOkay? You expect me to believe youâre just giving in like that?â
Her hand slides across my belly. âAfter everything youâve done for me the past week and a half, I figure I owe you.â
I kiss her hair. âYou donât owe me anything, but I do appreciate you listening to what Dr. Reynolds said. Your blood pressure has been great, no headaches. Plus, I mean, Iâm a lucky man.â I let my voice trail off. Thereâs a hundred reasons that I can list why Iâm a lucky man, and they all have to do with having Ally in my life, in my arms, and in my bed.
âI feel like a frump.â
I use my body to gently push her to her back. Hovering over her, I search her face. âA frump? Youâre not a frump.â
She laughs, but it doesnât hide the truth of her feelings. She honestly believes it. âI just lie here⦠and do nothing. Iâve probably gained at least ten pounds in the last week. Youâre going to have to probablyâ¦â
âBullshit. Youâre perfect.â
I expect her to laugh or smack my chest in the playful way she does, but instead her face is completely serious when she says, âYou think so?â She starts to stutter. âI mean, I know Iâm not perfect, but do you think⦠damn, I donât even know what Iâm asking.â
âAsk me,â I demand.
She takes in a sharp breath and releases it slowly. âI just mean, do you think Iâm⦠okay?â
I nod my head, still not sure I understand what she means.
